As a dog nutritionist, I understand that dogs can enjoy an extra treat just like humans. I also like to use treats while training. However, many dog treats on the market contain animal products or are full of additives and preservatives that are not healthy for your furry friend. Replacing your dog’s treats with a vegan alternative is a great way to start adding more plant foods to your dog’s diet.

Making your own vegan dog treats is so easy and you know exactly what is in them. They are inexpensive to make and you can change up the ingredients based on what your dog likes. You and your dog can share them too!

Simple Recipes to Get You Started

Peanut Butter and Banana Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup natural peanut butter
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the flour, peanut butter, and mashed banana until well combined.
  3. Slowly add the water to the mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼-inch thickness.
  5. Use a cookie cutter to cut the dough into your desired shape and place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and crisp.
  7. Allow the biscuits to cool completely before serving.

It’s important to remember that these treats should be given in moderation and not used as a substitute for your dog’s regular meals. Always introduce new foods gradually to your dog’s diet, especially if your dog has any underlying health conditions.

Making vegan dog treats at home can be a fun and rewarding experience for both you and your furry friend. By using wholesome ingredients, you can ensure that your dog is getting the nutrients they need and without the additives. Enjoy feeding your dog these yummy vegan treats!
