Paul Cronshow is the co-founder of the Santa Barbara Beekeepers’ Association and on this episode will be discussing the importance of honey bees, the issues affecting honey bees, urban and vegan beekeeping, and how a vegan can justify bee”keeping.”

Nifty quotes:

“The 4 p’s that are endangering bees and other pollinator insects:

  • Pesticides
  • Pests
  • Pathogens
  • Poor nutrition.”

“Bees are the legs of the plant.”

How to help pollinators: “Tear up your lawn. Plant sage, basil, lavender and rosemary.”

“Bees have been around for 14 million years.”

And while not directly related to Mr. Cronshaw and not necessarily reflective of his views or this program’s, two very informative documentaries about bees and colony collapse disorders are: Queen of the Sun: What Are the Bees Telling Us? and Vanishing of the Bees: Little Bee, Big Mystery.

Blast from the past! If you enjoyed this episode please check out our interview with Katie Sanchez, founder and co-owner of Bee Free Honee, as well as the episode featuring June Stoyer of The Organic View podcast, someone who has done a great deal of study into the effect of a certain class of pesticide, neonicotinoids, on colony collapse disorder. I also said that we’d give the links in this section to the winners of three major awards in the past two weeks:

Marty Krutolow of Marty’s V-Burger, listed among Rachael Ray’s Top Burgers in America. When he was on our show, he was still a commercial pilot, with his burger business in the planning stages. What a vegan success story!

Sugandh Agrawal of GUNAS the Brand, presented by Macy’s and winner of Best Retail Brand in the 2018 Independent Handbag Awards.

Michaela Grob of Riverdel Fine Foods Dairy Free, cited by Vogue as a stop not to miss when you’re visiting the Brooklyn Museum.
