Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food.

We’ve all likely encountered this quote more than once and considered them wise words. In fact, they are. I’ve been studying human creation and find it very interesting how the world and human life were created. Both secular science and scriptures state that man was formed from dust. The big bang theory states that the human body is made from stardust; and in scripture, God created the universe, then the earth, and when finished creating mountains, rivers, plants, and animals, created a man from the dust, called Adam. Knowing we come from dust, it stands to reason our body has the same elements we find on earth.

Being created from dust gives us a very clear picture of how to live our lives and how to treat our bodies. Simply put, we should apply the same basic principles of agriculture to our bodies to live a fruitful and healthy life. Think about a green landscape, with abundant trees, flowers, and other plants, with a river nearby.

This beautiful landscape was produced without artificial chemicals or supplies—the only elements present were sunlight, oxygen, water, and nutrients gathered from the soil. Our body has the same capacity to constantly detox, regenerate, and grow, and can be done healthfully without consuming chemicals from industrialized foods and drugs.

Humans, possess intelligence and consciousness, so beliefs and declarations have an impact on the health of our body. There are cases in which it is a mistake is to accept, believe, and appropriate the drug remedy for a diagnosis given by a doctor. We believe that what the doctor says is the absolute truth, when in fact there are many diseases that can be treated and even reversed with a healthy diet.

Fear is also a big problem. Most of us are afraid of death and illness, and when we live in fear, our cells lose the ability to grow and regenerate because they are in protection mode. When our body feels harmony and peace, our cells are constantly in growth. Physical health is influenced by what we introduce to our body and what we think.

We know that a healthy lifestyle includes eating natural and organic foods, exercising, receiving sunlight, and drinking enough water. But we should also consider discontinuing the use of over-the-counter drugs as a quick remedy for simple discomforts, such as common headaches, muscular pain, etc. These products help for the moment, easing discomfort, but continuous use can damage once healthy organs.

Pharmakeia is a Greek word translated as witchcraft in the scriptures. From its root, pharmakon, meaning poison, drugs, medicine, the word pharmacy was derived. Learning the meaning of these words can give us clarity of the intentions behind the slogan, “Consult your doctor.” Once you start intoxicating your body with one pill, you may need to start taking more and more, creating drug dependence.

Our body was created with a perfect design, and we should use the same perfect creation to keep our bodies healthy and growing. Our light can only shine if we live a peaceful life, going back to basics as much as we can. Avoiding quick fixes could be a big help. Having real freedom and joy will lead to a healthy life and are found in what nature offers. So, step back and start living a simple life in contact with creation, both of the world and your body.

  1. I know it is not your intention, but this type of article is hurtful to those who, despite their best efforts, experience illness. In my case, our vegan-since-years-before-conception son was born with a serious illness despite living the life you describe as optimal for human health. I rejoiced and wept reading Victoria’s compassionate article, “The Taboo Topic: Sickness and Vegans”. Your article, on the other hand, makes me feel like we have failed in some way. If we did not “accept, receive and appropriate the drug remedy”, we would have lost our son at age 12.

    1. I´m sorry that my article hurt you, of course it wasn’t my intention to hurt anyone who is or has being dealing with illness. Probably I wasn’t clear but when I said “There are cases in which it is a mistake is to accept, believe, and appropriate the drug remedy for a diagnosis given by a doctor.” I tried to say that there are times that people just choose to take a pill instead of making an effort to change their lifestyle. But of course, in cases like your son’s you should choose the medicine. I’ll be more specific next time to avoid this type of misunderstood. I’m sorry for causing you a bad feeling, not my intention at all. I pray that your son gets better and finds healing. Amen.
